Meeting CJM volunteer, Tim Morrison! Tim has been donating his time for many years towards the cause to help folks coming out of incarceration to ensure a graceful transition back into the STL community.
Following a long career as a public-school educator, Tim decided to graciously donate his time for the past 5 years with CJM and the Transition Center in St. Louis. His good work here includes helping men with the next steps beyond incarceration to obtain state IDs and birth certificates, building resumes, soft skill training, as well as conducting job fairs to set the men up for success upon release. Through the Transformative Workforce Academy, he builds bridges with employers to give the men a 2nd chance.
“You can’t let your worst moment in life define you.”
Tim Morrison
Tim’s Role
Tim has a large caseload; seeing at least 26 men per week for consult. He sees an 85% positive outcome for those he consoles. “You can’t let your worst moment in life define you” is a motto Tim prescribes and reminds his clients of in moving forward.
Tim is currently working diligently to push the men he works with to gain education. Whether it be a trade school or college, Tim sees a need for the DOC to encourage and grow opportunities for those men within these arenas. Tim recognizes there are a lot of opportunities that are not being taking advantage of and hopes to disrupt that arena. In Tim’s words, “It doesn’t have to be this hard, guys.”
Always Willing to Help
Tim’s time and service is invaluable to not only CJM, but to the greater St. Louis area in general. By helping and serving folks impacted by incarceration, we all prosper with a healthy workforce, an invested and giving back community, and general good will towards people. Tim serves as an example of these attributes.
